This Candle’s History
Pickett’s came from Dubuque, Iowa, where Joseph Pickett Sr.. a former Pittsburgh Steeler, who became a brewmaster, bought the historic Dubuque Star Brewery in 1971. That brewery dated back to 1898 and was, by then, the only one left in the whole state.
Pickett modernized the aging plant and introduced Pickett’s Premium in 1973, selling it across Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin, which is why the cans proudly call it the work of Iowa’s only brewery. The Pickett family sold out around 1980, and the brewery closed in 1985.
A note: Pull Tab Candle Co. is an independent small business and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Pickett's or its parent companies. Every can we use is a genuine vintage original, sourced one at a time from collectors and estate sales, then cleaned and hand-poured here in Minneapolis.
