This Candle’s History
Pabst Blue Ribbon began in 1844 as a Milwaukee lager brewed by immigrant Jacob Best. It was later renamed for Frederick Pabst, a former Great Lakes steamship captain who married into the family and built it into one of America’s biggest breweries.
The “Blue Ribbon” name comes from the 1890s, when blue silk ribbons were tied around the bottles to mark the brewery’s award-winning Select beer. PBR is still made today and enjoys a devoted following, though the original Milwaukee plant closed in 1996. Your can dates from its 1970s heyday.
A note: Pull Tab Candle Co. is an independent small business and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Pabst Blue Ribbon or its parent companies. Every can we use is a genuine vintage original, sourced one at a time from collectors and estate sales, then cleaned and hand-poured here in Minneapolis.
