History

Carling’s roots reach back to 1818, when English farmer Thomas Carling settled in London, Ontario, and began brewing. Red Cap Ale became one of the company’s signature beers, and after Prohibition’s repeal Carling carried it into the United States, opening its first American brewery in Cleveland in 1934. A large New England plant followed in Natick, Massachusetts, in 1956.

Red Cap rode Carling’s mid-century boom alongside its sister beer, Black Label. The U.S. Carling business passed to Heileman in 1979, and the brand eventually landed with Molson Coors.

A note: Pull Tab Candle Co. is an independent small business and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Carling Red Cap Ale or its parent companies. Every can we use is a genuine vintage original, sourced one at a time from collectors and estate sales, then cleaned and hand-poured here in Minneapolis.
